Choosing a wrench depends on the kind of drum you have, and what is inside that drum. There are different wrenches for different needs, just find the one right for you.
- Plug (bung) wrench
- When working with flammables - use a bronze or aluminum wrench to prevent sparks
- Many wrenches are universal - they open a wide range of plugs
- Longer wrenches give extra leverage

- Strong, compact, inexpensive
- RWA
- Very light aluminum wrench that works with most steel and plastic plugs

- Torque Wrench
- UN-specifications require hazardous material drum plugs tightened to the proper torque
- Must be done to prevent leakage
